Weaving a web of protection online

This year’s Safer Internet Day (7 February) is an apt time to remind you of our “Send me a Selfie” resource.

Run by The Ariel Trust and funded by the MVRP, this education programme empowers children and young people to learn how to say “no” to the sharing of inappropriate images on text or online.

This process is taught via a short film, featuring a young girl being asked to disseminate pictures of herself, which makes her feel distinctly uncomfortable. Students are then invited to step into the shoes of the duo and in brief dramas, practice refusal skills, bystander intervention and how to ask for help.

The theme of this year’s Safer Internet Day is “Want to talk about it? Making space for conversations about life online.”
