Serious youth violence in Merseyside’s communities has had a profound impact in recent years, with certain high-profile cases shocking our region and patients with injuries sustained from serious violence continuing to come through the doors of our region’s hospitals.
In healthcare, we are in a unique and significant position to change this situation, with both community healthcare and hospitals contributing far more to society than just healthcare alone.
We believe societal violence is preventable, as are the injuries sustained and the fatalities caused.
The conference aims to:
- Understand the root causes of serious youth violence in our region and discuss the evidence base around this.
- Demonstrate the work of multi-agency partnerships around the region which are working towards making a positive impact.
- Hear the lived experience of young people who have been involved in serious violence.
- Understand the Government’s statutory Serious Violence Duty and its implications on the healthcare sector.
- Hear from leaders in the field of violence prevention, including work done in other cities around the country.
- Discuss the creation of a regional violence prevention clinical network.
This is a collaboration between the Cheshire and Mersey NHS Major Trauma Network, Merseyside Violence Reduction Partnership (MVRP), and the Public Health Institute at Liverpool John Moores University.
